Sometimes, patients ask us how long their specific dental treatment will last. That question is similar to someone asking how long their natural teeth will last. Because there are so many factors that can impact the longevity of teeth or the restoration on the teeth, it is difficult or impossible to accurately predict how long they will last. The longevity of teeth and dental treatment varies from person to person. And, the condition of the teeth, bone and gums prior to and after treatment impacts the longevity of the restorations. How well you take care of them, home care, eating habits, and stress levels on the teeth are also important parts of the equation. Of course, the quality of the treatment itself influences the long-term outcome as well and we are committed to delivering high-quality treatment that is intended to last many years. While there are no hard and fast rules about how long the restorations will last, many people have had restorations for 15 plus years. But, it is unrealistic to expect them to last forever. One reason is because a great restoration on a tooth does not necessarily mean that the tooth will never get decay, loosen, come out, etc. So while there is nothing we can do to render a tooth completely immune to future problems, preventive maintenance will likely prolong the life of your dental treatment for many years.
